Celebrating the life of
Thomas Edwin Solomon, Sr.
April 10, 1957 - December 28, 2016
Thomas Edwin Solomon, Sr.
Tybee Island - Thomas E. Solomon (Tommy), died suddenly December 28, 2016, doing what he loved; working at his landscaping business.
He was born April 10, 1957, to Frances H. Solomon, and Edmund J. Solomon Sr. in Savannah. He was a lifelong resident of Tybee Island.
Tommy was a graduate of Johnson High School, class of 1975. He started his landscaping business shortly thereafter. He was a former volunteer with the Tybee Island Fire Department, and a member of the Savannah Ski Club. He was also a devoted member of The Seed Church.
Surviving Tommy are his son, Thomas E. Solomon Jr., his siblings, Edmund Solomon Jr. (Donna), Gloria Stettler, and Christopher P. Solomon (Patricia). Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a beloved brother, John P. Solomon Sr.
Tommy had a special love for his business and for Tybee. If he wasn't working, he was on the water, or on the barrier islands hunting shark’s teeth. He had a passion for nautical memorabilia, and anything brass. He also loved ski trips and cruises. Throughout his life, there was always a dog by his side; too many to mention. A man and his dog.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel.
The funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Seed Church Building Fund, 1950 Chatham Parkway, Savannah GA, 31405.
Sad year for the Solomon family. Our prayers are with all of you during this difficult time.

While we spend only half te year on Tybee, the beautiful palm trees cared for by you always were on our mind. Godspeed.

We are sure you know that Tommy touched the lives of many. He has been helping us through the years since the late '90's with work on our dock, to white rock in the drive way, and taking down trees. Even though we were not personal friends, it always felt like he was part of the family and was there when we needed him. His sudden passing was and continues to be a shock. We offer our deepest sympathy to you his family and closest friends. We will miss having him in our life

Thoughts and Prayers to the entire Solomon nation of friends and family. What a tremendous loss. Tommy was so much more than a Landscaper. He was a mechanical wizard, white-rock artist, home builder, fun-loving friend, man's man and true Tybee Island icon. How many people can you think of to call if you had to get an 18-wheeler out from being stuck in the sand next to the old TIPD, on a Sunday no less. I could only think of one and he was there in no time, driving his back-hoe, chains in hand and never asked for a penny. Just a small memory of thousands of acts of kindness I'm sure. Special condolences to Chris and Tommy Jr. You have lost more than a father and brother, you have lost a truly great man!
